Volume III - Semiconductors

Introduction to Semiconductors

We are already on the third volume of the six volume open-source textbook provided by Tony R. Kuphaldt.  In this third volume, we learn about semiconductors at every level, an incredibly important topic in today's electronics-focused world.  We’re including this open-source textbook into CircuitBread as we think it is an important body of work that will help any current or aspiring electrical engineer understand important semiconductor related topics.  We hope that the CircuitBread interface adds to its value by creating an excellent learning environment with features like quick page turning, bookmarking, highlighting, glossaries, and note-taking to your personal account.

Now that we have learned about both DC and AC circuits, Tony R. Kuphaldt is ready to address semiconductors and microelectronics.  Never before in circuits did we need to worry about individual electrons, but now we will learn not only about electrons but their fictional (yet important!) counterparts, holes.  While it does not require a stellar understanding of chemistry, a good foundation in both chemistry and a little physics would definitely be useful.  Once that device level understanding is achieved, the functionality of the components start to make much more sense.
